The church I grew up in, Second Baptist Church of Little Rock, Arkansas, has a very unique way of ministering to the city of Little Rock. Lake Nixon is a beautiful recreational lake owned and operated by the church to provide recreational opportunities, a summer day camp, a year-round outdoor preschool program, and much more. Lake Nixon is near and dear to my heart because I spent many years during junior high and high school working in the “Snak Shak”, aka Jill’s Grill.
My Dad spent countless volunteer hours at Lake Nixon during his retirement years, fixing just about anything that needed upkeep or repairs. After his death in 2018, our family established a scholarship fund in his name, so that lower income children could attend the outdoor preschool and summer day camp programs.
A portion of my earnings from the sale of my pottery goes directly to the Jones Family Endowed Scholarship Fund of the Second Serving Foundation, a ministry of Second Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas.
